Cold Water (2017)

Arles, April 2017

Workshop with Antoine d’Agata (Les Rencontres d’Arles)

Sometimes there just aren’t any words. I need to take photographs, to get up each day and try to find the image. The workshop text describes d’Agata’s concern as ‘paring down the photographic act to the need to recount’ How can I recount what I have just lived?

The images are notes, marks made on a page. Antoine gets it. His generosity is boundless. I begin to understand that I feel as though I am submerged in cold, cold water and that to live I will need to emerge.
